Aversion To White Blouses

I've had an aversion to the basic white blouse for a while.

I've never known why, I just hate wearing a white blouse. I'm okay with other color blouses, or even a white blouse with something else on it, but plain white is no good.

Polos too. I have never liked a polo and I always thought it was because it was a bit yuppie-esque.

Today, I had what Oprah would call an "aha" moment.

I was getting ready for an interview. I was putting on a light gray suit and a white blouse. I know, I just said I don't like them, but they say it's good for an interview.

This was a cuter white blouse with some cute seaming and sleeves, but still, just a white blouse (similar in style to this one).

As I'm putting on the shirt, I had a flashback to my 12 years of Catholic school and it hit me!

I hate white blouses and polos because I wore them every day for 12 years! It's the damn uniform quality to a white shirt that I hate! It's nothing personal against the color or the style, just more than a decade of trauma wearing these shirts!

I like a creamy color better because it looks nicer with my skin.

I know exactly what you mean although for me it's skirts. I had to wear skirts in school for years and I hated it so to this day, skirts are a no/no for me.

I don't wear white. With my complexion, it just doesn't suit. Even my wedding gown was ivory.

That explains it all right. I love polo shirts and you are right about the gray and white for an interview. Can't go wrong with that combination.

How cool that you figured it out. I have an aversion to yellow kitchens because of my family's house...

I wonder what other "preferences" we have because of past trauma, not because they are logical or not.

I wear white blouses, not because I like them (I prefer color), but because they go with everything. I hate it when stuff doesn't match.

I have a friend you won't wear green to this day after years spent in school and Girl Scout uniforms!

I have yet to have a white blouse that doesn't get a stain the first time I wear it. Hate em!

Poor thing and the aversion is perfectly understandable.

I never thought about, but I don't like white blouses either, although I have lots of cute white tees. I waitressed through college and always had to where a white blouse and black skirt. I guess I now associate this with having to balance huge heavy trays while fending off drunks. No wonder I don't wear white blouses these days.

I have an aversion to polka dots.
I own not one thing with polka dots on it. And that's after years and years of dedicated shopping! ;)
Don't know why....
But my Mom REALLY loved them. Had them in every color combination imaginable. Hmmmmm...just might be something to this.... ;)

A friend of mine once complained that everytime she wore a white shirt, someone took her out for italian food. i understand she was trying to make a point about her own clumsiness - but my first though was that maybe i should reconsider this not wearing white blouses thing.

i tried it. no one took me out for italian food.

When I was in 5th grade, my mom bought all of our clothes to match each other, so matter what we picked out it would go with whatever else we wore.

Each of us kids had a certain color that year, which also made it faster and easier for my mom when doing laundry, to figure out what belonged to which kid.

While it was a great idea in theory, it wasn't in practice, because all of us ended up getting sick of always wearing the same color all the time.

Green was the color she picked for me, and I have hated green ever since.

Blue became my favorite color from that point on, and remained so for most of my life, until I got a computer running Windows 98. All the BSOD's made me hate blue.

This became a real problem for me, because I rent an apartment with tons of blue carpet in every room and I am not allowed to replace it.

I love my apartment, the location, the price of the rent, and everything else about it...except the blue carpet.

I have put up with hating it for the last 10 years because I don't want to move.

So I totally understand and sympathize with your hatred of white blouses.

A lady wearing white is like an angel :)

White blouses just screem "hey kids, come and hug me and put peanut butter and jelly all over my clean white blouse!"

I have them too. When you have kids you learn to wear things that are machine washable and can hide a stain if need be.
